Cross Body Movement

Cross body movement is all about crossing the midline of the body, and getting the two sides of our body working in a coordinated manner. This will prepare infants for crawling, walking and eventually help them to read and write.

In infants, use nappy change time to practice crossing the midline of the body, take baby's left foot and touch it to their right hand, then do the opposite. Raising alternate arms above baby's head or 'cycling' the legs are other change table options. Use singing and rhymes to make it a game. 
Toddlers can practise marching (raise alternate arm and leg) or games such as Simon Say's to perform actions that cross the midline of the body.
