Beginning to Balance

Beginning to balance is all about giving infants the opportunity to experience their body in a range of positions relative to their surroundings.
Giving children a different perspective will improve their visual alertness, visual tracking, spacial perception, cognitive functioning, and helps them learn the skills needed to balance.
Balancing is involved in movements like standing, walking, running, jumping, hopping and skipping.   

Sit with baby or toddler on a swing, hammock, see-saw or rocking chair 
Carry baby in different positions eg facing into your body, away from your body, laying across your arm facing the floor.
Use slings or baby carriers to allow baby to experience your movement patterns with you eg walking, bending, squatting, turning.
