Keynotes Announced and Registration Form Released

Rick Hanlon, AFL Cape York:
‘The Power of PE & Sport’

Rick held the first AFL club development officer role in Tasmania with the New Norfolk District Football Club. Whilst in Tasmania Rick was awarded the William Leitch Medallist Best & Fairest with the Tasmanian Football League in 1990, and in 1992 was awarded the ‘Best & Fairest’ in the Northern Tasmanian Football League.

Also in 1992, Rick became the Northern Tasmanian AFL Development Officer and was then promoted to the role of Regional Development Officer with AFL Tasmania. Rick was posted to Cairns and after 7 years as the AFL Queensland Development Manager, for the Cairns Region was appointed as the AFL Queensland Kickstart Manager.

 

Professor Doune Macdonald, University of Queensland:
‘Smart Moves, Smart Thinking’

The Smart Moves policy opens some possibilities for thinking about the curriculum, learning, and HPE teachers’ work differently. This presentation will draw on research with Queensland schools and “physical activity facilitators” to talk possible futures for Smart Moves.

Professor Doune Macdonald is Head of the School of Human Movement Studies at the University of Queensland. Doune is a leading international researcher in the fields of Health and Physical Education and youth physical activity and health.

Her research interests have focused on the challenges of curriculum reform and its impact upon teachers and teaching in HPE through the lens of professional socialisation, discourse analysis and identity construction using predominantly qualitative methods. More recently Doune’s research has sought to better understand the role of physical activity in the lives and wellbeing of young people.
