We are delighted to welcome back Jess Skarratt as out MC for the 2018 WISB. One of the bubbliest personalities in television, Jess’ long and successful career has seen her travel the world working on a variety of exciting shows. As both presenter and producer on some of Australia's best loved childrens' and travel & lifestyle programs, Jess is a familiar, friendly face to Queenslanders.

Jess is a passionate advocate of active and healthy lifestyles, and has hosted a number of television sporting shows. Off camera Jess is a much in-demand MC of charity events and social functions.

ACHPER QLD promotes active and healthy lifestyles in education communities across Queensland. ACHPER QLD’s annual Women in Sport Breakfast aims to celebrate female sporting achievements and inspire the next generation to get active

We aim to celebrate achievements in both sporting performance and contribution to sporting activities. Click on the title below to download the nomination form. Our three categories this year are as follows:

Junior Star: Outstanding sporting performance by a female athlete aged 14 years and under at a local, state or national level. 

Senior Star: Outstanding sporting performance by a female athlete aged 15 years and over at a local, state or national level. 

Service to Sport: Students who have significantly contributed to school or club sport and/or the sporting pursuit of others (for example coaching, officiating, administration). 

All students entered in the junior and senior star categories will be eligible for the "Queensland Schoolgirl Athlete of the Year Award* which will be presented to 2018's most outstanding student. The winner will be announced at the 2018 Women in Sport Breakfast on Wednesday 24 October.

Nominations close Friday 14 September.

* All awards are the responsibility of the ACHPER QLD Management Committee. Decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered in to.

This year the judges were unable to decide on only one winner so they decided to award two amazing young women as the 2017 Qld Schoolgirl Athlete of the Year - Riley Day from Beaudesert State High School and Jemma Punch from Brisbane State High School. Here is a snapshot of the achievements of our two recipients.

Riley Day

Riley has had a phenomenal 12 months on the track. After winning the 100meters and breaking the record for the 200meters at the All Schools State Championships in October last year, Riley went on to break meet records for both events at the Australian All School Championships in December. Currently ranked No 1 in Australia for Under 18s and Under 20s for both the 100meters and 200meters, Riley was also the flag bearer for the Australian team at the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games where she won the 200meters and mixed relay and came second in the 100meters. Riley is currently ranked No. 2 in the World for Under 18s 200meters.

Jemma Punch

Jemma has proven herself an elite athlete in three different sports. Having extended Years 11 and 12 out across three years, she is determined to continue excelling both at school and on the field. In Rugby 7s, Jemma is currently playing for both her school and the Under 18s Queensland Reds team. In Hockey, she plays for both the Australian School Team and the Under 18s Queensland Team. Finally, in Softball, Jemma has represented Queensland in the Under 17s Team, the Australian School Team and has been named to the Under 19s Australian Squad.

 As part of ACHPER’s commitment to promoting active and healthy lifestyles in education communities across Queensland, we were very proud to partner with Queensland Government to offer the Active Girls in School Video Competition this year.

Congratulations to Gumdale State School, winners of the Best Innovative Physical Activity Program category.

Congratulations to St Mary's College, Ipswich, winners of the Best Motivational Message category.

Special mentions go to Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre, Northern Beaches State High School, Loreto College, St John’s Anglican College and Capalaba State College for their fantastic efforts.

Special mentions go to Elsa Bond and Niamh Meehan from Lourdes Hill College, Mt Maria College and Brigidine College for their motivational videos.  

Well done to all schools who entered. We’ve had a great response to the first year of this award and we’re looking forward to more inspirational programs and stories next year.
