We are delighted to announce Ms Bernie Toohey, from St John Fisher College, as our 2019 UQ HMNS Inspirational Teacher of the Year. Bernie is a full time HPE Teacher and year 7/8 coordinator at SJFC and also runs the 7 and 8 HPE program. She is a very experienced HPE Teacher and someone that all students look up to. She goes out of her way to make sure her students can participate in HPE Lessons, providing uniforms if they don’t have any, and giving up her lunch times to allow students to be more active. With years of teaching experience, she helps students build their knowledge of HPE in a safe and supportive environment.

Bernie is passionate about the sport of netball. Quite simply, Bernie lives and breathes this sport. She is the netball coordinator at SJFC and since she joined the school five years ago, the success of the netball program has gone through the roof. Bernie trains, runs and organizes 13 inter-school netball teams. She also trains and manages thew Vicki Wilson Junior and Senior netball teams, coaches the junior, intermediate and senior QC cup netball teams and also coaches the QISSN netball team which travels to the largest independent schools netball carnival each year. Bernie is an asset to the College and without her love and dedication to the sport and the girls, they would not have this success at SJFC.
