2012 Brisbane Conference

16 & 17 August 2012

Save the date in your diary.  The ACHPER QLD 2012 Brisbane HPE Conference is scheduled to take place on 16 & 17 August.

Preparations have started, venues are being finalised and our program is being drawn up for this professional development "must attend" event.

We have looked at your feedback from our Conferences and Workshops run throughout 2011 and with this in mind are planning a relevant, practical and enjoyable program.

Rosemary Davis from ACARA to speak at 2011 Brisbane Conference

After a being welcomed at our North Queensland HPE Conference, Rosemary Davis will speak at the Brisbane Conference to delegates about the new National Curriculum and the implications it will have on HPE Teachers.

Rosemary brings specific insight and knowledge about how the National Curriculum is shaping up and what the future holds for HPE teachers. Rosemary also shared a special announcement with our delegates in North Queensland, with cheers from the crowd in response. Make sure you are there to hear the same!

Gr8 HPE Teachers Make a Difference

Steve Francis understands the challenges and demands of working in schools. After training as a primary school teacher with a major in PE, Steve led a number of Queensland State Schools from a one teacher school through to a large metropolitan school.     

After 18 years of successful Principalship with Education Queensland, Steve ventured with his family to Hong Kong as the Principal of Kowloon Junior School, an international school of 900 primary aged students for four great years.

He has returned to Australia to work with educators and to support staff in schools to reach their potential.

Steve is passionate about work – life satisfaction and keeping things simple.

Key Note Speaker Announced

Dr Lee-Ann Perry to Present at ACHPER QLD 2011 BrisbaneConference

ACHPER QLD is proud to announce Dr Lee-Ann Perry as one of the keynote speakers at the Brisbane Conference to be held 18 and 19 August at Riverglenn Conference Centre, Indooroopilly.

Dr Perry has been principal of All Hallows’ School, Brisbane since 1999. She holds a Bachelor of Education (First Class  Honours), Master of Education , Diploma of Christian Leadership and Doctor of Education. She has taught Health and Physical Education and Recreation studies at New South Wales and Queensland schools and was PE Coordinator and Sports Coordinator at St Patrick’s College, Townsville.

In 2010 Dr Perry was recognised as an outstanding leader by the Australian Council for Educational Leaders receiving an ACEL Fellowship. She has also been awarded Woman of the Year (Brisbane Zonta 2009) and an Australian Government National Award for Quality Schooling, Excellence as a Principal (2007).

Her leadership and management have seen the provision of learning spaces for performing arts, water polo, aerobics, library research and recreation at All Hallows’ School.

Dr Perry’s thesis investigated risk and accountability and the implications for school leadership and she has published a number of papers in this area.

She has held positions on the boards of the Queensland Education Leadership Institute Ltd, Queensland Catholic Education Commission, Queensland University of Technology and Queensland Studies Authority.

In awarding Dr Perry an ACEL Fellowship the Australian Council for Educational Leaders recognised “her great integrity, dignity, hard-working ethos, loyalty and respect for others which fosters her ability to lead change, manage risk and forge forward.”

After such a successful conference in 2010, the ACHPER QLD Brisbane HPE Conference 2011 is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever!

The program will be packed full of interesting speakers offering a range of presentations including theoretical and practical sessions, with topics varying from the new national curriculum, assessment, health, sport, physical education, physical activity and everything in between.
